In this keynote lecture, Professor Susanne Kord uses the example of "Germany's worst poet," Friederike Kempner, as a case study to examine the question of what constitutes ‘quality’ in processes of literary reception. Taking Foucault’s author function as a point of departure, she discusses concepts of ‘high culture’ and highlights their exclusionary mechanisms.
