Dr. Sean Freyne, a leading expert on Roman-period Galilee, assesses what we can glean from forty years of scholarship on the career of Jesus, the Jewish Galilean, and the way in which his memory was developed within the region. Dr. Freyne also offers some suggestions regarding the expansion of the Jesus movement up to the end of the first century C.E. as it negotiated the mixed cultural environment of Upper Galilee, Phoenicia, and Syria.
