Thursday, November 20, 2014, 9:00 to Sunday, November 23, 2014, 9:30

Fairmont Le Château Frontenac: 1 rue des Carrières Québec, Québec G1R 4P5

As part of the Annual General Meeting of the Royal Society of Canada, the Federation is organizing a Big Thinking Lunch & Learn with sociolinguist Shana Poplack. The title of Professor Poplack's lecture is Mythes et science: The ideology of "standard" language. For more information about this lecture and to register, please go here.

A key element of the Royal Society of Canada's (RSC) Strategic Plan is to “expand the reach of the RSC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Annual Symposium”. Between 1945 and 1980, the AGM of the RSC was hosted at least once in every province of Canada, at 25 universities from coast to coast. In 2013, the RSC resumed the practice of moving the AGM around the country, beginning with a visit to Banff, Alberta. Following this initiative of the Fellowship and Institutional Member Engagement plan, this year’s AGM will take place at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Québec City.
Join us in Québec City and take part in this historic event as the RSC inducts the inaugural class of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. Please join us to celebrate: promoting Canadian research and scholarly and artistic accomplishments; recognizing academic and artistic excellence; and advising governments, NGOs, and the Canadian public on matters of public importance.
